The title of The Vital Groups Chapter 9 is very simple but what it conveys is inexhaustible—”Christ as the Son of Man Cherishing Us and as the Son of God Nourishing Us.” In the New Testament our God suddenly became a human being, born as a man in the lowest status. His coming in humanity made Him a very cherishing person. To cherish someone is to make that person happy. In resurrection He was transfigured to become the life-giving Spirit, which Spirit is for nourishing. Chapter 9 shows us eight illustrations in the New Testament which unveil Christ as the Son of Man cherishing us and as the Son of God nourishing us. Chapter 10 is on cherishing people in the humanity of Jesus. This message does not stress the Lord’s cherishing us but our cherishing others. The model of Jesus as the Son of Man cherishing people needs to be reproduced in us so that we also will cherish others in His humanity.
